Celebrate the birth of Christ in Top of Utah

Area churches have planned a number of special events this weekend that are open to the public.

Those that have submitted their holiday schedules include the following:

Brigham City

On Christmas Eve at 5 p.m., Rocky Mountain Bible Church will celebrate the birth of Christ with special Christmas music presentations, singing of Christmas carols and a Bible message by Pastor Steve Barsuhn titled, “The Best News of Christmas”.

On Christmas Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. Worship Service, Pastor Steve will give a Christmas message titled, “The Birth Names of Jesus.” This message will focus on the names given by the angels as they informed Mary and Joseph about this special child that Mary was carrying.

This Sunday only there will not be any Sunday School classes. Ladies’ and men’s Bible studies will take a break for the holidays and resume meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Christmas Eve service at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church will begin at 8 p.m. The Christmas Eucharist will be celebrated by The Rev. Claudia Seiter assisted by Deacon Deanna Adams and lay ministers.

The Christmas Day service will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will be the service of Lessons and Carols. There will be Eucharist at this service. There will not be an Adult Forum on Dec. 25. St. Michael’s is at 589 S. 200 East. For information, call 435-239-8336.

Clearfield

Clearfield Community Church, 200 S. 500 East, has announced the following holiday schedule:

Christmas Eve, the church will hold a 6 p.m. worship service.

Christmas Day, there will be a 10 a.m. worship service with no Sunday School.

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 1579 S. State St. will present “Celebrate His Name! Proclaim His Birth,” performed by the church choir, at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve. The public is invited to this free event.

Fruit Heights

Westminster Presbyterian Church, 796 S. Mountain Road, will hold Christmas Eve candlelight services at 6 p.m. and at 8 p.m.

Christmas Day, the church will hold a 9 a.m. service, titled Nativity of the Lord, Lessons and Carols.

Layton

Grace Presbyterian Church, 385 W. Golden Ave., will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 p.m. and a Christmas Day service at 10:30 a.m.

Marriott-Slaterville

First United Methodist Church, 1339 W. 400 North, will hold several services Christmas Eve.

At 6 p.m. will be a family-friendly Communion and candlelight worship. Set for 7:30 p.m. will be a candlelight worship with the church’s Chancel Choir and Bell Tones. An intimate candlelight worship is set for 11 p.m.

At 10 a.m. Christmas Day, the church will hold a traditional worship with carols.

Ogden

Ascension Lutheran Church, 1105 N. Washington Blvd., will hold a family Christmas Eve service at 3:30 p.m. featuring the church’s Children’s Bell Choir. A traditional candlelight service is set for 9 p.m.

The Congregational United Church of Christ, 3350 Harrison Blvd., behind the ReMax office, will hold a 5 p.m. Christmas Eve service of candles, Communion and carols. Christmas morning worship at 11 a.m. will be conducted by Pastor Gage Church. Hot cinnamon rolls and cocoa will be served. The public is invited to all church events. Elim Lutheran Church, 575 23rd St., will hold a festive Christmas Eve service at 9 p.m. tonight. Two Christmas trees have been decorated with Christmons made by members of Elim. Christmons are special ornaments depicting a variety of traditional Christian symbols. The churchyard will be decorated with luminaries.

The service will begin with solo and ensemble Christmas music. Holy Communion will be celebrated by Pastor DanaLee Simon. At the conclusion of the service, the sanctuary lights will be shut off. The pastor and assisting minister Dave Thomas will light candles, and the flame will be passed to candles held by all those in attendance. When all candles are lit, the congregation will join in singing “Silent Night.”

On Christmas Day, worship will be held at 10 a.m. with special music and Holy Communion.

The public is invited to both services. Elim practices open communion and welcomes any baptized Christian to communion. For more information, contact the church office by sending email to office@elimlutheran.org or call 801-394-5543.The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 2374 Grant Ave., invites the public to join its congregation for Christmas worship.

Christmas Eve services are planned for 7:30 p.m., featuring the Eucharist and carols. “Bring your children,” states a news release. At 10:30 p.m. is a choral Eucharist. Eucharist will take place again at 9 a.m. Christmas Day.

The congregation of First Baptist Church and New Beginnings Christian Church, Together in Faith, 2519 Jefferson Ave., invites the public to join them for a 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service including “Silent Night” by candlelight.

Participants are invited to enter at the parking lot entrance on 25th Street.

The church will not have a service on Dec. 25.

Ogden Christian Fellowship, 789 Second St., will have a Christmas Eve service from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 24.

The church will hold a Christmas Day service at 10:30 a.m.

St. James of the Just Catholic Church, 495 N. Harrison Blvd., will hold Masses with no confessions at 6 p.m. and midnight Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day Masses will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. There will be no evening Mass that day.

Also planned is a 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve Mass with confessions from 3:30 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. and Octave of Christmas Masses Jan. 1 at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and at 6 p.m.

St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3329 Harrison Blvd., will celebrate the birth of the Savior with a 6 p.m. Christmas Eve candlelight service, a 9 p.m. Christmas Eve Communion service and a 9:30 a.m. Christmas Day Communion service.

Roy

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 5560 S. 2300 West, will celebrate Christmas by hosting Christmas Eve services at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. to exalt the birth of the Christ child.

The 11 p.m. service will be a candlelight service with the congregation’s chancel choir participating. Communion will be served at each service. The community is invited to these services, and all are welcome to commune with the members.

Roy Bible Church, 5757 S. 3100 West, will have a 10:30 a.m. Christmas Day service including Christmas carols as well as a Christmas sermon.

Crossroads Church, 6545 Combe Road, will hold a short service at 10:30 a.m. Christmas Day. For information, call 801-479-1052.

Salt Lake City

There will be no live broadcast of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s weekly Music and the Spoken Word program on Christmas Day.

Instead, the program that will air on Christmas Day will be pre-recorded.
