Hubby sues wife's lover, claiming abandonment

SALT LAKE CITY -- A man in Utah is suing his wife's lover, claiming the man ruined his marriage and should pay $1.5 million.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/ut3Q3e ) the husband is suing under Utah's alienation of affection law.

The civil lawsuit filed Thursday in 3rd District Court says the wife left behind two children in Salt Lake County and followed her lover to Burley, Idaho.

The husband, Lee Steinlauf, claims emotional distress and the breakup of the marriage.

Lawsuits claiming alienation of affection are not uncommon in Utah.

Lawyers say most are settled out of court.

In 1999, the wife of a Utah fish-and-game officer sued over an affair he had during a backwoods poaching sting.
