Romance runs high during the holidays

Dating during the holidays -- what's so great about it?

If not just the joy of the holiday season, there are certainly other things to think about. There is a certain feel in the air during this season that is felt at no other time of the year.

"Dating during the holidays is more romantic than any other dating," said Bailey Maxfield, a Fremont High sophomore. "It's fun, and just more romantic."

There are a lot more options for dating during this season; from Salt Lake City to Ogden, options for a cute and inexpensive date are infinite.

"Temple Square, ice skating, playing in the snow. They're fun to do and (happen) only around during the holidays," said Fremont junior Lauren Cascaddan.

Brittany Barlow, a Davis High senior, says, "I think that holidays are really special and they're a time for family, and most of my memories are from traditions during the holidays. ... And dating during the holidays is special because you want the person you are with to be part of your memories."

She adds, "There are so many fun activities, like Temple Square, sledding, making Christmas treats together, watching Christmas movies and cuddling next to the fire with some hot chocolate. The only thing winter is good for is cuddling! Its just a magical time of year. The holidays bring the best out of everyone."

Other special moments are out there to think about as well, like kissing under the mistletoe, Christmas music that is only socially acceptable to listen to once a year, which party to go to for New Years Eve, who you are going to kiss at midnight, and so forth. There's nothing like watching the ball drop with that special someone!

However, there may be a difference of opinion between the genders about the coolest time of year to date.

Do girls enjoy dating during the holidays?

"Heck yes! Especially if it's with a guy like me!" said Drew Holley, a sophomore at Fremont. "Sometimes just because there are plenty of holiday activities to attend, but you can do all sorts of fun stuff any time."

What about the guys?

"It's fine because there isn't really a down side to it, you get presents," said Fremont junior Will Charleswoth. "Depends on what I want to do. Personally, I think it's easiest in the summer months 'cause there is more things to do."

"I think its a time for more 'seerious dating.' You go to fun parties and give gifts!" said Josh White, a Bonneville High junior. "There's so much going on and plenty of activities (skating, parties, sledding etc.)"

Christmas is over, but these are some ideas that will always work for next year, and there's always New Year's coming up as well.

Whether it's with a special someone or just a fun group date, there is definitely something to be said for dating during this special time of year. So choose your midnight partner wisely, and don't wait until it's too late to make plans!
