LOGAN -- Zions Bank named a penny-pinching Utah State University senior the winner of an online Facebook reality series called "Cheapster."

The Herald Journal of Logan reports (http://bit.ly/upPInH ) that 23-year-old Lori Thompson took home the grand prize-- 10,000 one-dollar bills deposited in her bank account.

Thompson survived the series with $87 remaining from a show budget of $120.

Among other things, Thompson distinguished herself by turning a $13 dress and accessories from a Davis County thrift shop into a formal evening gown in just 30 minutes of shopping.

Thompson says it's a lesson she learned early in life. She's debt-free, even without student loans. She changes her own oil. And when her father gave her a car at age 16, it was a wreck she had to fix. Her father is a car mechanic with eight children.
