Family encounters unexpected visitor

BOUNTIFUL — A Bountiful family was startled by the sound of a deer on Christmas Eve — but in their basement, not on their roof.

The family heard a noise in the basement around 10 p.m. and found a very large buck had fallen inside through a window well, said Bountiful Police Sgt. Dave Edwards.

The deer kicked and jumped around, punching holes into the ceiling with its antlers, he said.

Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officials arrived at the home near 1900 East on Maple Hollow Way and had to euthanize the deer, as they could not get it out of the house, Edwards said.

The home is right by the East Bench, and Bountiful in general gets a lot of deer roaming through the city, he said.
