Here is a sobering Christmas thought. The world from Adams' day to Thomas Edison's day, some 5900 later existed totally without electricity. For about the last 100 years the world has depended more and more on electricity until today without it mankind would literally cease to exist.
Think about it. For 5900 years the only form of transportation was the horse, buggy and wagon. No indoor lighting, except for candles, coal oil lamps, etc. No refrigeration, indoor plumbing, or any of the many other luxuries we enjoy today.
Here is a partial list of modern inventions that we depend on daily that will become totally useless without electric power: House lights, television, radios, air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, telephones of every kind, the Internet, computers, microwave ovens, VCRs, DVDs, traffic lights, ATMs, cash registers, bank transactions, credit/debit cards, elevators, gas pumps, traffic lights, street cars, electric trains, subway trains, air traffic control systems, private and commercial airplane travel, home security systems, burglar alarms, irrigation pumps, sump pumps, rechargeable items, dairy milking machines, satellite and GPS systems, NASA systems, tornado/hurricane warning systems, all hospital diagnostic and operating systems, vending machines, bank vaults, time locks, drawbridges, movies, teleprompters, farming machines, TSA screeners, car assembly lines, stock market transactions, water distribution systems, sewage disposal systems, natural gas distributions systems. These are just those I can
think of presently. The list goes on ad infinitum.
The scary part is that all electric power could go off at any moment permanently whether by earthquakes, hurricanes, terrorism, etc.
The more scary part is that 99% of the USA and the rest of the world's inhabitants are totally unprepared for this type of disaster/catastrophe and never give it a thought! Everybody depends on the super market for food at least once a week. I took a transportation class at Weber State once that taught that if the freight trucks, trains, and airplanes stopped delivering food to the super markets, the stores would be bone dry in less than a week. Than what happens? Especially in the big cities with millions of inhabitants who all of a sudden realize there is no more food! It will be total chaos, pillaging, rampaging, and killing, all out of desperation to survive! Admittedly, this is a worst case scenario, but one that could easily occur any day.
My parents and grandparents survived without electricity forever by growing their own corn, potatoes, beans, etc. and storing it for winter.
They cut their own wood for heating and cooking. They haystacked their grass/alfalfa to feed their horses, their only form of transportation.
They dug wells for their water. They made their own clothes. In short this was a way of life for them. The only one they knew. But they survived! Not today! Not the modern generation. We are all spoiled rotten by electricity and all the modern gadgetry and state of the art technology that comes with it. God help us all if what I have described herein comes to pass!
