OGDEN -- Randy Rahe wasn't kidding around, he was adamant.
Following Thursday's 78-64 victory over Idaho State, the Weber State basketball coach said his Wildcats would give a better all-around effort next time they take the floor.
"We will get it solved," he said.
The test of Rahe's emphatic statement will come this afternoon when the Wildcats (9-3 overall, 1-0 Big Sky) play host to Sacramento State (5-7, 0-1) at the Dee Events Center.
While he was pleased to have the ISU win in hand, Rahe said he expected to see his players control the game from the opening tip until the final buzzer. Instead, despite leading by as many as 21 points, the Wildcats struggled during moments of the second half. In particular, they had trouble dealing with the full-court press ISU employed.
"Some things we do almost every day are: transition defense, we work on rebounding obviously, we work on defense," Rahe said. "We work on our press-breaker at least every other day and we worked on it twice this week in three days."
ISU cut the Wildcats' lead from 21 down to 12 midway through the second half, but the 'Cats soon rallied and regained control of the game.
Still, Rahe and his player said they weren't satisfied with their effort and they expected more of themselves.
"We just need to come ready to play next time," swingman Scott Bamforth said.
Rahe said his players would practice with a strong intensity on Friday and come ready and refocused against the Hornets.
"We don't talk about winning and losing, we just talk about 'This is how we're going to play,'" he said.
