Willard man charged with animal crime

WILLARD -- Joel R. Murray, 54, was booked into Weber County Jail on Thursday afternoon on a charge of wanton destruction of protected wildlife.

The Willard man was charged with the third-degree felony crime on Dec. 8 in 2nd District Court. He is suspected of capturing, injuring or destroying a Rocky Mountain goat on Sept. 10, though court documents do not specify which activity Murray is suspected of doing.

The charge was based on evidence obtained by Mike Kinghorn, a conservation officer for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, according to court documents.

If convicted, Murray could face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to $5,000.
