HARRISVILLE -- A man died after driving the wrong way on Interstate 15 and crashing into another car almost head-on.
Early Saturday morning, Larry Caldwell, 68, drove his 1987 Subaru station wagon onto I-15 near Smith and Edwards -- but he was going south in the northbound lanes, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The Harrisville man drove half a mile before glancing off two vehicles. About 12:30 a.m., he hit a third vehicle almost head-on and the impact tore his station wagon in half, according to UHP.
Caldwell was ejected from the station wagon and was declared dead at the scene.
Three other people were taken to local hospitals. By Saturday afternoon, two of them had been released while the third remained hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
At this point in the troopers' investigation, they do not believe impairment was a factor in the accident.
