DUI arrests kept to a minimum

Utah Highway Patrol troopers reported 72 DUI arrests Sunday morning from an annual drunk-driving blitz they do for the New Year’s Day holiday.

UHP Lt. Steve Winward said of those 72 arrests, seven were in the Weber and Morgan county area.

No other arrests were reported in the Top of Utah area.

A Logan arrest of a 19-year-old woman resulted in minor damage to the trooper’s car who pulled her over, he said.

The woman, who had double the legal limit of alcohol in her blood had she been old enough to drink, he said backed her car into the trooper’s vehicle after she was pulled over.

Ogden Duty Lt. Scott Conley said there were no noteworthy traffic accidents on the department’s reports.
