Horace E. "Ed" Crowell Jr.

Horace E. "Ed" Crowell Jr. of West Haven celebrated his 80th birthday with a family gathering on Dec. 29.

The oldest of five children, he was born on Jan. 1, 1932, two minutes after midnight to Horace E. Crowell Sr. and Mabel Wahlen Crowell in Stoneham, Mass.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served during the Korean conflict.

He married Lois Limburg on July 9, 1952. After he was honorably discharged, they settled in the Ogden area and raised their family.

His two sons and their spouses are Kip and LuAnn Crowell, and Scott and Ilene Crowell. He has seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He worked at Hill Air Force Base in many positions for 33 years, retiring in 1987 as foreman.

He spends winters in Beaver Dam, Ariz., in the warmth of the desert, and plays golf with old friends.

He also enjoys camping, hunting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
