FARMINGTON -- Three defendants charged in a case in which a safe containing $200,000 was stolen appeared in 2nd District Court.

Epifanio Anthony Lee Welch, Joshua Cameron Watts and Wayne Jerry Clark all appeared in court Tuesday.

Clark, 24, and Watts, 19, are each charged with second-degree felony theft and second-degree felony burglary. Welch, 35, is charged with second-degree felony theft.

The charges stem from the Sept. 1 theft of a safe in West Bountiful that police said had almost $200,000 in cash inside.

Welch entered a not guilty plea, and prosecutors said they will refer his case to 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City.

Deputy Davis County Attorney Steve Major said Welch's involvement in the case may have occurred in Salt Lake County, not in Davis County.

Watts' defense attorney said there may be a possible resolution in his client's case and asked for another hearing. The judge set that hearing for Jan. 24.

Clark's attorney asked for a preliminary hearing to be set for his client. No court date has been set.

The fourth defendant, Steven Kent Hogge, 41, of Murray, had entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of third-degree felony attempted burglary Dec. 20. His sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 30.

Major said his office is still reviewing filing charges against four other suspects who also may have been involved.
