High-speed chase ends in I-15 crash

BRIGHAM CITY — A high-speed chase of a reportedly stolen vehicle ended with a crash on Interstate 15 and a suspect hospitalized with injuries, Brigham City police said Wednesday.

Sgt. Kurt Fertig said the incident began when an officer tried to pull over a speeding vehicle. The driver refused to stop and led police on a chase that reached I-15. Speeds during the chase reached 90 mph with the driver weaving through traffic as though impaired, Fertig said.

The vehicle hit a median, overcorrected and veered into a semi truck before leaving the road and crashing.

Fertig said the pickup truck had been reported as stolen from a construction site in Cache County.

The driver, a 26-year-old man whom Fertig did not identify, received minor injuries and was placed in police custody in the hospital.

Charges are pending, Fertig said.
