WSU student injured by his own handgun

OGDEN — A 24-year-old man was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after accidentally shooting himself while on the Weber State University campus.

WSU spokesman John Kowalewski said the man, who is believed to be a student enrolled at the university, was injured around 6:30 p.m. when his handgun accidentally discharged.

The man has a concealed carry permit that makes it legal for him to carry a gun on campus, Kowalewski said. He said he didn’t know how many WSU students are permitted to carry weapons on campus, as students are not required to disclose that information.

The man was taken to an Ogden hospital for treatment of his wound, which was not believed to be life-threatening, Kowalewski said.
