My biggest gripe against outgoing Mayor Godfrey was the gondola issue. Other than that, I feel he did an outstanding job as mayor and his 12 years in office set a high bench mark for future mayors and other elected officials. That said, I hate to see it when former elected officials go into the consulting business. They know they have built friendships and valuable contacts with current elected officials and have an inside track on getting their ears.
Over the years, I have heard it said that if elected officials would listen to their constituency and their staff, they would be better served. By the same token, if businesses asked their employees' opinions, they also would be better off. Consultants in this case usually tell the company just what the company wants to hear and not the critical information.
Former KSL TV personality Don Gale once told a group, repeated an often quoted remark, "A consultant is a guy who knows how to make love a hundred different ways but doesn't have a girlfriend."
