RAMP applications being accepted

OGDEN -- Recreation, Arts, Museums and Parks tax grant applications are now being accepted at the Weber County Commission Office, 2380 Washington Blvd., Suite 360.

Applications are available on the Weber County website, www.co.weber.ut.us and will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. Jan. 13.

Each year, the RAMP board receives more than 100 applications, and funds are distributed to qualified nonprofit organizations and city and county entities through a formal proposal process. Once the funds have been distributed, the entities have one year to complete the projects.

The purpose of RAMP, which Weber County taxpayers voted to approve several years ago, is to fund new and existing facilities and programs that benefit every resident in all cities and rural areas within Weber County.

According to a news release, RAMP costs Weber County taxpayers 1 cent for every $10 purchase, raising an estimated $2.6M annually. The money is used to fund such projects as soccer, softball and football fields; walking, biking, equestrian and cross-country trails; neighborhood parks and pathways; swimming pools and aquatic centers; literary outreach programs; arts in the schools; multicultural and arts festivals; dance, theater and music activities and performances; and more.
