OGDEN -- Coming off of a long winter moratorium, the Ogden High School boys' and girls' swim teams sharpened their skills at their annual invitational Saturday in their home pool. Both teams placed second behind deep Pleasant Grove High School squads.
"Our team did great as far as individual-time wise," said head Ogden coach Amanda Halverson. "They have been working really hard all season to drop times for region and state. We had some really good swims."
One of those top swims was team captain and senior swimmer Brady Wahlstrom. Wahlstrom was first in the 200 freestyle, and swam on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
"We've practiced every day that we were allowed," said Wahlstrom of the break. "We've worked hard every day and every morning." Wahlstrom said that many of his team mates dropped time yesterday, despite going through a hard workout week.
Halverson said that the boys' 200 freestyle relay consisting of Skyler Child, Josh Freiner and Colton Van Wagenen, and Wahlstrom was one of the top performances of the day, qualifying for state.
Jodi Pham another Ogden swimmer with top performances yesterday said that overall it was a good meet to get back into the competition mode after the break.
"They weren't personal records," said Pham of her wins in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, "But we've been practicing really hard, so hopefully by the end of season all that work will pay off. "
Pham won the 100 free and also swam on the second place 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.
Ogden High will swim next at the region meet on Jan. 21 at Tooele High School.
