Author events this week at The King's English Bookshop include:

-- Massachusetts author Kathryn Kay signs her debut novel "The Gilder" (Kensington, $15) at 7 p.m. Monday.

-- Utah authors Leanne Mayo, Lisa Mayo Murphy ("Shakespeare in a Nutshell" and "God's Singers") and Kenneth Lougee ("Pie in the Sky") will participate in the quarterly Local Author Showcase at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

-- Washington author Marissa Meyer signs her novel "Cinder" (Feiwel & Friends, $17.99) at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

-- Authors Donna McAleer of Utah and Jack London of Texas, who have both written books about the military, will participate in a discussion at 7 p.m. Thursday.

These are free events at the bookshop, 1511 S. 1500 East, Salt Lake City.

* Utah authors Joe Scott and Darci Mock will sign and discuss copies of their books, 2-4 p.m. Saturday, at Hastings, 340 E. 525 North, Harrisville. Scott is the author of "God Is Chicago" (Tate Publishing, $9.99) and Mock wrote "I Can Be Anything" (Tate Publishing, $8.99). This is a free event.

* The Davis County Library hosts a winter book sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at its Central branch, 155 N. Wasatch Drive, Layton. The sale will be held in the auditorium. Prices are $1 for hardbacks and 25 cents for paperbacks. Audio books on CDs and tape as well as DVDs will also be on sale. Items cannot be put on hold. Pay at checkout with check or cash.
