Man on charity collection rounds gets car stolen

PROVO -- A Provo man told police a car that he was borrowing was stolen from him while he was collecting donations for the poor.

KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/yfc2F0 ) Dan Lafontaine had volunteered to collect fast offerings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday. After stopping by the homes of a few church members, he left his keys in the car and the vehicle disappeared.

Lafontaine had been borrowing the green Lexus IS 300 from a dealership to test it out before potentially buying it.

The car has no permanent license plates, which makes it more difficult to locate.

Provo Police Sgt. Mathew Siufanua says the city has about nine cars stolen each year, and had passed an ordinance making it illegal to leave keys inside an unlocked vehicle.
