"In my day, we didn't have these fancy schmancy electronic toys. We didn't have smartphones, 'Rock Band' or Wii. We played with stuff our parents thre w in the trash. And we liked it!"
New Utah author Nick Sarkady isn't crabby like "Grumpy Old Man" on "Saturday Night Live," but he does remember that, back in his day, children got creative and played with anything they could get their hands on.
Sarkady's book, "Trash to Toys: Creative Games From Your Recycle Bin," gives instructions on how to turn everyday items like egg cartons, empty yogurt cups, tin cans, bottles, balls and string into fun games.
"Even in a tough economy, when cash is tight, people have everyday items to turn into fun games," Sarkady said in a press release.
