USU frat disciplined in underage incident

LOGAN -- A Utah State University fraternity is on a one-year suspension after an underage girl suffered alcohol poisoning following a party during homecoming week.

The school's Greek Council says the Gamma Epsilon chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha will be banned from having alcohol and must pay a $500 fine to the council, which is composed of representatives from the college's fraternity and sorority community.

The sanctions will last until Sept. 30 because the fraternity was suspended after the Sept. 25 party at the fraternity house.

Members must also maintain a cumulative 2.8 GPA and perform 30 hours of community service each.

Two men have been charged with misdemeanors in the case, and the then-17-year-old girl has been referred to juvenile court.
