New city council members Joel Maw and Mark Lowther were sworn in at a recent council meeting. LaFray Kelley was reappointed for another term as a councilwoman.
In other business, the assignments for council members were reviewed. Mayor Jay Jenkins is representative with Bona Vista Water and also judicial matters, risk management, insurance and safety.
Kelley was assigned to work on Founders Day, the arts council, grants and coordinating grants with other departments and working with volunteers. Jenkins said Kelley has done very well overseeing volunteer committees in the past.
Councilman Brent White will be the mayor pro-tem and will be over environmental services, sewer treatment systems and the landfill. He also is a member of the Plain City cemetery board, and will oversee sanitation and recycling.
Lowther will be the council representative to the planning commission and board of adjustments and will oversee the city buildings, technology and parks, trails and open space.
Councilman Bruce Higley will be the city representative with mosquito abatement and will also work with public safety. Maw will oversee plans for the Fourth of July celebration and was also assigned to oversee irrigation and recreation.
Council members voted unanimously to approve the assignments.
