VERNAL -- An eastern Utah woman has been charged with manslaughter in the death of her medically-fragile infant daughter.
KSL reports (http://bit.ly/z58lGR) Uintah County prosecutors filed the charge against 34-year-old Benita Jean Shostrom last month.
Shostrom faces a prison term of up to 15 years if convicted. An initial court appearance is set for Jan. 23.
Police say Shostrom called 911 after finding her daughter dead in her crib in June.
The girl was born prematurely and doctors had prescribed supplemental oxygen for her, but detectives found it was not being administered when the baby died.
Police say Shostrom told detectives she was already sleeping when her teen nephew put the infant to bed.
A state medical examiner's report listed the child's cause of death as "undetermined."
