OGDEN -- The United Way of Northern Utah is sponsoring a Martin Luther King Day essay contest just for fifth graders.
Participants are asked to write a five paragraph essay on Dr. King and turn them in to the United Way of Northern Utah offices or online at uwnu.org by Friday.
Nikki Lovell, a grant administrator and United Way volunteer, said she received a grant from the Utah Commission on Volunteers for the contest as well as for banners now being displayed on Martin Luther King Boulevard, which is 24th Street between Wall Avenue and Washington Boulevard.
Ten winners of the essay contest will be published in a small booklet and Ogden City Schools will present the winners with an award of $50.
Learning about King is part of the state fifth-grade curriculum.
