OGDEN -- The public is invited to participate with students and staff from North Davis Preparatory Academy as they take a polar plunge at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fort Buenaventura Park.
It's the second annual "Freezin' for a Reason!" to raise money for 25 9th graders at the kindergarten through 9th-grade school to travel to Spain in March as part of their academic studies.
Last year, students in the public charter school collected pledges from friends and family for their participation in the plunge. This year, they're asking others to join in for a $25 pre-registration or $35 day of donation to the cause.
"I had a good time last year," said Karl Dumas, a parent of a 9th grader. "They have fire pits set up for when you get out."
Dumas said he took the plunge three times last year.
The event will include live music, prizes, hot food and beverages on site. T-shirts will be offered to those who take the plunge.
The students will study at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, where each student will demonstrate their proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.
Those who want to make a donation or to register on line may visit regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?EventID=1021630.
For information, visit northdavisprep.org or call the school at 801-547-1809.
Donations may be sent to the school at 1591 W. Hill Field Road, Layton, UT 84041. Donors are asked to write polar plunge on the memo line of their checks.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Fort Buenaventura is at 2450 A Ave., Ogden.
