Charles T. "Izzy" Sullivan Jr. of Clinton celebrated his 80th birthday with relatives at Marie Callender's in Layton on Jan. 10.
The first of twin boys, eight minutes older than his twin John E. Sullivan (deceased), he was born on Jan. 10, 1932, in Casper, Wyo., to Charles T. Sullivan Sr. and Marie Elizabeth Gerber Sullivan. He also has two sisters and a younger brother: Rita Galles, Alice Swinsen (deceased), and George B. Sullivan (deceased). He attended St. Anthony's Parochial School and Natrona County High School.
In 1951, he entered Holy Trinity Abbey as a Catholic Cistercian monk (Trappist) and served in that capacity for 26 years. He enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of the monastery in Huntsville. He made many life-long friends there and still visits them. He has friends in the Ogden Valley with whom he still keeps contact. His best friend is Brother Nicholas, a monk at Trinity.
In 1974, he met his future wife; they were married in 1975. He became stepfather to Gary Sheffield, Blake Sheffield and Paige Morse.
He enjoys his grandchildren: Mat Jachim, Brittany White, Taylor Morse, Cade Sheffield, Mackenzie Morse and Carter Sheffield.
He worked for Ernest F. Durbano and Co., J.B. Parson's Asphalt and Paving, Evan's Grain Mill, Staker-Parson's Co., and finished his working life at Tanner Clinic. He attended the parishes of St. James, St. Joseph's and St. Mary's, and says he learned to love even more people through his church family.
He enjoys his many friends and family, especially the LDS members in his neighborhood.
