LAYTON -- The Utah Highway Patrol called in extra troopers Monday morning to handle a flurry of snow-related traffic crashes in Davis County.
The UHP handled 48 crashes in Davis County and 16 in Weber County between midnight Sunday and 11:30 a.m. Monday.
There were about 250 crashes in Salt Lake County and 25 in Utah County. There were no fatalities.
"It was a large number (of accidents) for one day," said Trooper Cameron Roden, a spokesman for the Utah Highway Patrol.
Additional troopers were also called in to handle crashes in Salt Lake County, he said.
One of the most serious accidents occurred around 8 a.m. Monday when a Toyota 4Runner, traveling south on 1-15 too fast for existing road conditions, went into the median and overturned twice near Exit 337 outside of Riverdale, Roden said.
A 27-year-old male passenger from Ogden, who was not identified, was thrown from the vehicle, Roden said. He suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to an Ogden area hospital.
Top of Utah drivers should also be aware during their morning commute today of black ice on roadways, Roden said.
There will be increasing clouds today, with a high near 29 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Wind will be from the south between 8 mph and 10 mph. Tonight, the weather service indicates there will be a 20 percent chance of snow after 11 p.m. with a low around 20 degrees.
