WEST JORDAN - Some 360 members of the Utah National Guard are deploying to Afghanistan.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/wsV4w4) the 1st Battalion of the 211th Aviation unit left Utah on Monday for Fort Hood, Texas head of a one-year stint overseas.
About 1,000 family members and friends gathered at the guard's West Jordan aviation support facility for a send-off.
Snow grounded 12 Apache helicopters which unit pilots were supposed to fly to Texas. They'll try to take off again on Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Gordon Behunin, commander of the Aviation Support Facility says the 211th's 1st Battalion will divide into three groups once in Afghanistan.
Behunin says the 66 members of the 211th's 2nd Battalion have been in Afghanistan since last summer. The unit is expected home later this year.
