SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Board of Regents is announcing two finalists for the presidency of the University of Utah after vetting a field of 80 people.
Regents say the top candidates are University of Utah Senior Vice President David Pershing and University of Kentucky Provost Kumble Subbaswamy.
Pershing has held his administrative post at the Salt Lake City school since 1998. He first came to the university in 1977 as an assistant professor in chemical engineering, and has won awards for teaching and research.
Subbaswamy has served as provost at University of Kentucky since 2006. He joined the school as a physics professor before taking administrative jobs at the University of Miami and Indiana University.
Regents are meeting Friday for closed-session interviews with the finalists and may select a president then.
