Man pleads guilty to fatal SLC motel stabbing

SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah man accused of killing a woman and stuffing her body under the mattress of a motel bed has pleaded guilty to a murder charge.

Court records show Thomas Kumalac entered the plea to the first-degree felony at a hearing Friday in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped an obstruction of justice charge also filed against Kumalac.

The 29-year-old Kumalac faces a prison term of 15 years to life at sentencing April 2.

Police found the body of 25-year-old Jessica Jensen at the Capitol Motel in Salt Lake City after a patron complained about an odor in the room.

Police say Jensen went to the hotel with the 29-year-old Kumalac.

In court papers, Kumalac says he stabbed Jensen.
