Avalanche warning still in effect today

OGDEN — The avalanche warning for the Ogden area remained high and bordering on extreme late Sunday.

The Utah Avalanche Center expects its warning to remain high into today.

Natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered avalanches are certain, according to the center website.

“Heavy snow and strong winds have easily overloaded a weak and fragile pre-existing snowpack, resulting in dangerous avalanche conditions,” the website states. The center advises anyone without expert-level experience in such conditions to avoid side country and backcountry terrain altogether.
