PROVO -- Citing business losses, the BYU Bookstore at Brigham Young University is laying off 29 employees.
BYU spokeswoman Carri Jenkins told Provo's Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/yXRwlS ) that the bookstore has been losing money for the last several years, and the situation is no different than what other bookstores are facing across the country.
A total of 25 full-time employees and four part-time workers were notified of the decision Friday. They'll continue to work for two more weeks after which they'll be offered a severance package.
Jenkins says the bookstore is funded through its own profits and not by university or student fees.
Nearly 200 student-employees at the bookstore will not be affected by the change.
Before the layoffs, the bookstore had about 100 non-student employees.
