Charles L. Pennington

Dr. Charles L. Pennington of South Ogden is celebrating his 90th birthday. Family and friends may join him at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Hope Center, 5051 S. 1900 West, Roy.

He was born Jan. 24, 1922. After graduation from West High School at age 16, he earned a first class radio operator's license. In 1942, he enlisted in the Naval Air Corps and served as a B-24 pilot in the South Pacific. At the end of the war, he enrolled in the medical program at the University of Utah. He began his private family practice in Roy in 1955. He later closed that practice and was instrumental in establishing the first contracted emergency room group in the state of Utah at Mckay-Dee Hospital. He retired in 1983.

He married Mary Chapman in June 1944. After 31 years and six children, she died in November 1976. He then married Dolores Petershesky in November 1978 and included her daughter into his family. She died in September 2008.

During his life, he has enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, skiing, traveling the world, and continues to enjoy golfing and sharing moments with the "Wild Bunch," his friends of more than 60 years.

His children and spouses are John Charles Pennington (deceased), George and Sidney Pennington, Julie and Charles Wittenbraker, Peggy Harrison, Mark and Joni Pennington, Michelle and Barry Verhaal, Carol Petershesky and Bill Hill. He has 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
