Family website raises $287,000 to cover deceased skier's medical bills

PARK CITY -- A website set up by the family of deceased Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke has now raised more than $287,000 -- which should be enough to cover her medical bills while in a Salt Lake City hospital.

Burke's publicist issued a statement saying she expected medical charges to be approximately $200,000.

The website, giveforward.com/sarahburke, was set up by Burke's agent to help her husband, Rory Bushfield, raise money to offset bills that piled up as doctors tried to save her life. Burke was injured during training for a sponsor's event in Park City on Jan. 10. She tore her vertebral artery and went into cardiac arrest. Burke died Thursday.

Her publicist says the family has not yet received a final hospital bill from the University of Utah's Health Sciences Center.
