FARMINGTON -- A 26-year-old man accused of shooting his father in the face while duck hunting eight years ago is still too mentally incompetent to be released from Utah State Hospital.
Benjamin Joseph Gully was declared not guilty by reason of insanity in 2007 in the shooting death of his father, 61-year-old James Gully. He was 19 years old at the time. Gully is now under the care of the Department of Human Services.
Gully has been at the state hospital since 2005, receiving treatment for a combination of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Another court hearing has been set for July 9.
