Sheriff’s office gets grant to buy AEDs

OGDEN — The Weber County Sheriff’s Office has received a $5,000 grant from Rocky Mountain Power for the purchase of automatic external defibrillators.

The grant will be used to purchase additional AEDs to be placed in patrol vehicles. Law enforcement is often the first at the scene of medical incidents.

In cases of cardiac arrest, early intervention with an AED dramatically increases the odds of survival.

The department already has 18 or 19 AEDs in deputies’ vehicles, said Lt. Mark Lowther, department spokesman. The grant from Rocky Mountain Power will fund the purchase of two more AEDs, Lowther said.

“As costly as they are, we’re very grateful for the grant,” Lowther said.
