BOUNTIFUL — The total cost of damage to the city’s utility company has been downsized from $1.4 million to $1.2 million.
The city council voted on Tuesday to pay five more partners in the effort to get the Bountiful City Light & Power operational, following a devastating wind storm Dec. 1 that resulted in millions in damage in Davis County.
The measure includes payment of $24,718 to Murray city; $298,469 to Provo city; $11,362 to South Utah Valley Electric Service; $109,746 to PineValley Power; and an additional $68,079 to Cache Valley Electric.
The city’s utility fund does not have enough to cover some of the expenses from the storm, said Allen Johnson, director of BCL&P, so the council is expected to reopen the 2011-2012 fiscal year budget to meet those costs from retained earnings, which have been set aside for emergencies.
City officials also are working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and an insurance company to cover some of the unbudgeted expenses.
Johnson estimates 12 communities and companies were part of the unified effort to get power up and restored for city residents, following the storm.
