Kennecott charity gives away $195,500

SALT LAKE CITY -- Kennecott Utah Copper Corp. says it gave away nearly $200,000 to Utah charities last month.

The mining company donates money it collects from visitors at the Bingham Canyon Mine.

A visitor center at the mine drew more than 178,000 people last year.

Since 1992, the Kennecott Utah Copper Bingham Canyon Mine Visitors Center Charitable Foundation has donated more than $2.6 million to charity.

The foundation says its charity focuses on children, military veterans, disabled and homeless people, senior citizens and the low income throughout Utah.
