SALT LAKE CITY — Sen. Stuart Reid, R-Ogden, has introduced legislation that would allow state officials to track intergenerational poverty in an effort to break that cycle.
SB 37 would allow the Department of Workforce Services to assemble data about those who receive public aid in an effort to identify, and potentially help, children at risk of continuing the cycle.
The measure cleared the Senate Workforce Services committee Tuesday and will now go to the full Senate.
The legislation aims to identify patterns and trends and use that to assist case workers, social scientists and government officials in the study and development of plans to break the cycle of poverty.
