Burning car closes Powder Mountain Road

EDEN — A car completely burned Thursday on Powder Mountain Road, shutting the road down.

An 18-year-old Syracuse man was driving up the road to the ski resort when he heard a pop under the dashboard around 2:30 p.m., said Weber County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryon Hadley.

He got out of his 2001 Audi A4, which was in the middle of the road and about 100 yards from the resort, as it caught fire. Three to four inches of new snow was on the ground, making it difficult for fire crews to get to the car in a hurry, Hadley said.

The car was a total loss. Investigators suspect the cause of the fire may have been an electrical problem.

Police had the road shut down in both directions until about 4 p.m.
