Thumbs up: To the destruction of chemical weapons that had been stored in the Utah desert for decades. At the Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, Deseret Chemical Depot, near Tooele, employees recently finished the task by destroying the blister agent, lewisite.
Thumbs down: To our expanding girths in America. More than one-third of adults are considered obese, a disturbing statistic that has not changed since 2003. About 17 percent of children are obese.
Thumbs up: To the Utah State University food pantry, which offers students relief from hunger and tips on better nutrition. The Student Nutrition Access Center Pantry has helped scores of students and has been used about 200 times so far.
Thumbs down: To the despicable con artists who are phone-scamming persons. These crooks claim to be soliciting donations to help local officers wounded in the Jan. 4 shooting. It's a con and we hope these people are caught soon and punished.
Thumbs up: To students at Davis High School, who are taking a class that teaches how social media can be an effective marketing. It's important for students to keep up with the fast-changing world of technology.
Thumbs down: To a FedEx driver who thought it was amusing to joke that a package he was delivering to an employee at Camp Williams was a "bomb." That is nothing to joke about, as the driver discovered. He now faces a third-degree felony charge.
