Boy, 2, dies when run over at home

MENDON -- A 2-year-old boy is dead after his father backed a car over him at their home in Mendon.

Cache County Sheriff's officials say the boy's mother had just arrived home and the victim was playing outside about 11:40 a.m. Monday. The boy's father was backing out of the garage and stopped when he felt he had run over something.

The boy had head trauma and was not breathing. Emergency personnel tried to revive him with CPR, but he was later pronounced dead.

Officials say the father will be interviewed and have his blood tested for drugs or alcohol as required by state law. Deputies are not releasing the names of the people involved.
