OGDEN -- A man who had his child pornography stash burglarized has pleaded guilty to charges.
Sentencing is set for March 14 in Ogden 2nd District Court for David Paul Adams, 44, on two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. Four additional counts were dismissed in a plea bargain earlier this month.
Adams was initially booked into Weber County Jail on suspicion of 62 counts of the offense, one for each picture of nude female children, 6-10 years old, found by the Weber County Sheriff's Office investigation.
Deputy County Attorney Ben Willoughby said only "representative" charges were filed because the sentence in such cases are typically the same for two counts as they are for 62. The charges each carry a potential prison term of one to 15 years.
Judges in general are reluctant to hand out consecutive sentences, he said. They are particularly reluctant to do so if each charge can't be proven as a single, separate incident, Willoughby said.
Last spring Adams, of Centerville, reported that his vacation home in Huntsville had been broken into. Thieves stole furniture and other household items.
He did not report as stolen a backpack taken from a vehicle parked at the vacation home that contained the nude pictures. The images turned up when the burglars were caught, with the burglars taking pains to point out the porn, according to police.
One even told Weber Sheriff's Detective Josh Gard "I've done some bad things, but this is sick and wrong."
Adams admitted to owning the images, which Willoughby said had been downloaded online some 12 years ago.
Adams admitted to being sexually aroused by the pictures, according to charging documents.
Although a private preschool run by Adams' wife in their home was in no way connected to the offenses Adams has pleaded to, Willoughby said his entry on the state's sex offender registry will likely close the school.
