Editor,
Both Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney have been calling Obama the greatest food-stamp president in our nation's history. Let's step back and take a closer look. First, had Mitt not been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, there's a good chance he too might one day have needed some sort of assistance, whether in food stamps or a government-sponsored school loan. If any of us had our wealthy father pay off our educations, have doors open because of being the son of wealth and power, having a foot up on the rest of us normal individuals, would he be there where he's at today?
As for Newt Gingrich, had his adopted father not picked his mother up and married her giving, the "Newster" his name, he couldn't have used his military veterans benefits to acquire his own college education, which by the way is a government sponsored program. That's right, Newt Gingrich's biological last name if McPherson, and not until he was adopted by the soldier who married his mother, did he have the name he now has.
As to Gingrich's hypocrisy criticizing those receiving government assistance, doesn't he get a monthly check from the government and taxpayers for having been in Congress as well. And this, despite the fact that he was shamed out of office and Congress because of immoral behavior. Today, he wants to point his finger at those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, and need help to feed their families. Let's not forget that while being paid by the government to attend college, he dodged the draft and didn't serve in defense of this country. My question is this, had either one of these individuals mentioned above not had a rich father or help by government-sponsored school assistance, would either of them be running for president? And unless I'm mistaken, Obama accomplished everything he has to date, on his own. President Obama and his wife had to pay back all of those school loans they used to get their educations.
