OREM -- Orem Elementary School is among 50 schools nationwide that's getting a $100,000 grant from Target and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
The announcement Monday at a school assembly brought confetti, balloons and squeals of joy from students.
The news comes several weeks after the school found out it had barely missed out on a bid for a $50,000 grant from Clorox. School officials had hoped to use the money to start a new computer lab and ease overcrowding that forces three students to share each computer.
Parent Julie Hale says she heard about the Target contest and wrote the winning essay making the case for the Orem school, which falls just short of Title I status and misses out on related federal funds.
