The city council recently approved a development agreement and rezone request for a 16 bedroom assisted living facility on 0.66 acres at 770 South Main Street.
Developer Keith Russell said that the proposed building will be considered a Type I Assisted Living Center, which means that the patients will be mobile and capable of escaping independently in case of an emergency.
The building will be constructed to resemble a residential home, and will have minimal traffic as most residents will no longer drive.
By unanimous vote, the council gave the final approval to rezone the property from R-1-8 to HC (Health Care.)
The health care zoning allows for longer term residential health care facilities including various support services for residents. Business, professional, and government offices are also permitted use within the HC zone.
