LAYTON -- It was a good thing Ally Wahlstrom was on because the Lancers were a tad off.
Despite an uncharacteristic 23 turnovers, Layton High still smoked the crosstown rival Knights by 21 points Friday in a Region 1 runaway.
"To me, our big rival is Davis. But to Northridge, I think we're their big rival," Wahlstrom said.
Wahlstrom, a senior guard/forward, scored a career-high 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and the Lancers led wire-to-wire in a 59-38 victory.
"I guess I was on today," she said. "When I'm on, I seem to make them. If I'm not, it's not a good night. I'm normally a passer, but I was looking to shoot more today. They were going in, which was a bonus."
In their first meeting Jan. 13 at the 'Ridge, Layton cruised in a 57-18 romp.
"Northridge is a good team and has some good shooters," Wahlstrom said. "We were not making the right passes into the post. We needed to slow the pace down and work the ball more. We shouldn't have been that rushed playing at home."
The 18-year-old Wahlstrom also had two rebounds, one assist and three steals for the Lancers (16-1 overall, 6-1 league) who won their second straight after falling to undefeated Syracuse (57-41 on Jan. 27).
"We knew what we had to work on, so we put the Syracuse game behind us and focused on Weber (for Tuesday), which was playing at home and would be ready for us," Wahlstrom said. "It was a sloppy game today. We started off well (with a 35-point first half), then we had some ups and downs."
Layton shot 40.0 percent (18-of-45) -- 60.0 percent (6-of-10) from downtown -- and outrebounded the Knights 31-18 with 10 offensive boards.
Maddi Smith had eight points, two rebounds, one assist and four steals and Amber Daly had six points and four assists. Courtnee Wood finished with seven points, 13 boards and two steals for the Lancers, who had 14 assists and 15 steals.
"We were not up to our usual defense today, and we had some new players in there who need to play. The first time we played, we totally shut Northridge down," Wahlstrom said. "Everybody got the opportunity to play. We were looking for each other and being unselfish."
Kenzie Martin splashed in a game-high 16 points with two 3s, four rebounds and four assists for the Knights (5-12, 0-7), who dropped their eighth consecutive game.
Sydnee Acord had 12 points with two 3-pointers and four boards for Northridge, which shot 31.2 percent (10-of-32), was 27.8 percent (5-of-18) on 3-point attempts and turned the ball over 26 times.
* WEBER 47, FREMONT 31: At Plain City, the Silver Wolves suffered through a cold-shooting night against a tough Warriors defense.

Mikell Minnoch paced Fremont (5-13, 2-5) with nine points.
