CarDell and Joan Mortensen of Morgan will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 3. They plan to have a family dinner at Larry's Spring Chicken Inn on Feb. 11 to commemorate the occasion.
They were married on Feb. 3, 1962, in the Morgan LDS Stake Center by Raymond Larsen. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
He was raised in Bear River City. His parents are Benjamin P. and Karen Verlyn Mortensen. He retired after 36 years with the Internal Revenue Service. He is a longtime member of the Morgan Lions Club and enjoys fishing.
She was born and raised in Morgan to Velma V. Simmons and John E. Simmons. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom, working part-time jobs at local businesses. She served as deputy treasurer of Morgan County, as emergency services director, and was elected to the Morgan County Council. She is currently a member of the Beta Literary Club.
Both have enjoyed various ward and stake callings, and served as guest services missionaries at Salt Lake Temple Square for more than five years.
Their children and spouses are Casey and Nikki Mortensen, Farmington; Melinda and Blake Beesley, Riverton; Jileen Boydstun, Harrisville; Marci and Tim Chapman, Fountain, Colo.; and Jennifer Mortensen, Morgan. They have eight grandsons, five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
They enjoy spending time with their family.
