Olympians to re-light Salt Lake cauldron

SALT LAKE CITY -- Former Olympians will re-light the Olympic cauldron at the University of Utah to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2002 Winter Games.

The ceremony is planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday just outside the university stadium and is open to the public.

Gov. Gary Herbert and Fraser Bullock, who was the chief operating officer of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee, will deliver remarks.

The lighting will kick off a series of anniversary events. GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney will make an appearance Feb. 18 at an ice skating show at EnergySolutions Arena.

Romney was head of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee.

Team USA garnered 34 medals in the 2002 Games, breaking the previous record of 13.
