CENTERVILLE -- A 37-year-old man was injured when a heavy-duty construction truck rolled and tipped over, dropping him and the bucket he was in 21 feet to the asphalt.
Mat Commmunication and Construction was installing fiber-optic wires in the area of 615 E. 300 South in Centerville on Wednesday.
According to a news release from Centerville Police Lt. Paul Child, witnesses and other construction workers said the man drove the truck to their location, chocked the rear wheels, climbed into the bucket and hoisted himself up to install the wire.
He was about 21 feet in the air when the truck began to roll forward down the hill, according to the news release. No one was in the truck when it started rolling.
The truck rolled about 15 feet, then went over a curb and down a 4-foot-high retaining wall, where it rolled onto its side in a neighbor's yard.
The man hit the road while still attached to the bucket by his safety harness. He suffered head, neck and back injuries. Emergency responders reported that he was combative because of his head injury. He was taken by ambulance University of Utah Hospital.
No one else was hurt.
Investigators are investigating why the truck rolled.
